We are delighted to be hosting our 3rd annual Mid Summer Classical Concert in the Ramor Theatre on Saturday 30th June. Our special guests this year are St. Kilian's Choir, Mullagh, directed by Breeda Kenny and soprano Hannah O’Brien from the Royal Irish Academy of Music. We also welcome back Holly Chilton (oboe) and Ciarán Hayes (bassoon) also from the RIAM to entertain us once again. We will be playing some Irish and French Music this year as we are off to France on the 3rd July to perform at 2 concerts. This is the group of members who joined together to play in local schools around Meath & Cavan on Monday 18th June. The Orchestra performed in Moynalty N.S., Carrickabruise N.S., Knocktemple N.S., Billis N.S., Ballyjamesduff N.S., and Kilinkeer N.S. The children loved listening to the orchestra perform " This is Me- from the Greatest Showman and the Banana Boat song. They sang, clapped and even danced as we performed. The Big Squeeze Festival 
Teachers & members of the Orchestra are really looking forward to this fantastic festival that will be held in Kilkenny next weekend the 13th & 14th August. The Big Sqeeze aims to acknowledge Musical Tradition and Cultural diversity through the instrument. This festival will host the Greatest-Ever Gathering of Accordionists in Ireland and will run from August 12th to 14th in Kilkenny and Freshford. All age groups are taking part, There will be concerts, street performances, workshops, exhibitions and music to suit all styles, abilities and tastes..
If you are interested in accordion, then The Big Squeeze is the place to be, You will meet many people and make new friends
John Chilton the Musical Director of the Senior Orchestra is not only an expert accordionist but also an expert in maintaining and caring for accordions. John will be running a Free workshop Saturday 13th @ 11.10 in St. Kieran's College. Although the accordions are quite sturdy instruments, they are actually quite fragile! With hundreds of moving parts and beeswax holding the reeds in place, these handcrafted instruments need to be handled and maintained with care.
In this practical workshop, you will :
Learn about how accordions are made
Information on tuning
Learn about the key risks that threaten your instruments
Useful techniques for handling, maintaining, general care, storage and travelling with your accordion.

We have members from 3 of our orchestras performing solo's & duet's as part of the concert in Rothe House @ 3-4 .Karl Parge (Preparatory Orchestra), Evan Eiffe (Intermediate Orchestra), Brian Eiffe ( Senior Orchestra) & Holly Chilton (Senior Orchestra) will showcase their talents as they perform many different styles of music to suit all. 
And finally our Senior Orchestra will be perfroming in the Gala concert of the Big Squeeze Festival "Sqeezing in the Years" on Saturday 14th August in St Kierans College Theatre @ 8pm.


Radio Interview with Charlie Mc Gettigan

We were delighted to be invited to Longford on Saturday 11th June to perform live on Shannon Side Northern Sound. The Senior Orchestra perfromed pieces from their concert programme, including The Italian Suite, You Raise Me Up, Second Waltz and Rock Around The Clock. Charlie was completely blown away by the quality of sound we produced. A big Thank YOu to all involed in making this fantastic experience possible for us.

Cavan Remembers 1916

The Castletown Senior Orchestra joined together at the Market Square in Cavan Town at 2pm Saturday 23rd April to help mark the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 Rising. The audience was treated to a range of traditional and contemporary airs and compositions. The orchestra received a very warm welcome from the audience and plenty of compliments afterwards. Other talented Cavan musicians and dancers who performed throughout the afternoon were Cavan Town CCE, Mad4Trad, Milltown CCE, NYAH CCE, Celtic Cord and the Webber School of Irish Dancing.

 

 

Royal Hospital Kilmainham

We were delighted to perform for the American Women's Club of Dublin when they held their annual gala dinner at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on Saturday 9th April, which benefited Ruhama. It was so such an honor to perform in The Baroque Chapel of this prestigious venue. 

 

 

Free Concert

Castletown Accordion Orchestra performed a FREE Concert as part of Cavan County Council Culture Night Series. 

In celebration of National Culture Night Friday 18th September 2015, Mullagh based Castletown Accordion Orchestra, who have represented Ireland at World and European level, performed a free concert in Mullagh Hall.    Sponsored by Cavan Arts Council, the orchestra performed both classical and contemporary pieces which entertained an enthusiastic crowd
